International Day of Forests

Date: 04/04/2025

To celebrate the International Day of Forests, the Leo Club of Saegis Campus launched its “Green Tomorrow” project on March 20, 2025. The event took place at the beautiful ‘Gothatuwa Wetland Park’ and brought together 20 energetic Leos who spent the day helping the environment.

The group organized a tree-planting campaign, adding native saplings to the wetland area. After planting, the Leos led an awareness session where members and visitors discussed how wetlands and forests help protect wildlife, regulate the climate, and support healthy communities.

The “Green Tomorrow” project supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

1. SDG 13: Climate Action – helping reduce carbon in the air and strengthening climate protection.

2. SDG 15: Life on Land – restoring natural habitats and protecting plants and animals.

3. SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – keeping green spaces safe for future generations.

By linking the project to the International Day of Forests, the Saegis Leos demonstrated how teamwork can combat deforestation and protect the environment. The Leo Club of Saegis Campus also extended its gratitude to the Gothatuwa Wetland Park authorities for their kind support and cooperation in making the event a success.
