In a vibrant celebration of the International Day of Forests, the Leo Club of Saegis Campus launched its “Green Tomorrow” initiative on March 20, 2025. The event, held at the scenic Gothatuwa Wetland Park, brought together 20 enthusiastic Leo members who dedicated their day to environmental conservation.
Starting at 8:00 AM, the Leos carried out a large-scale tree-planting campaign, introducing native saplings to the wetland ecosystem. The hands-on activity was complemented by an awareness session, where members and park visitors discussed the vital roles that wetlands and forests play in maintaining biodiversity, regulating climate, and supporting community well-being.
The “Green Tomorrow” project directly contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
By aligning the initiative with the International Day of Forests, the Saegis Leos emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing deforestation and environmental degradation. The event served as a powerful reminder that every tree planted represents an investment in a healthier, more sustainable planet.
A representative from the Leo Club of Saegis Campus shared,
“The ‘Green Tomorrow’ initiative is more than just an event; it is a promise to our planet. We are incredibly proud of our members’ energy and commitment. Together, we are not just planting trees — we are nurturing a legacy of environmental stewardship for the Colombo community.”
The Leo Club of Saegis Campus extends its sincere appreciation to the Gothatuwa Wetland Park authorities for their support and collaboration in making this event a success.
